Alchemy Set: by Igor Santizo, 2004.

One influence for these drawings lies in the anachronistic practice of alchemy. It is specifically alchemical drawings; made as diagrams, maps and allegories; that served as inspiration and research material. A dictionary defines alchemy as: "the medieval chemical science and speculative philosophy aiming to achieve the transmutation of base metals into gold."

These small pen works on index cards are thought of as crucibles that envelop a dynamic admix of an elemental energy. They are seen as systems where light rays, starbursts, gaseous weather, liquefactions, gravity and figures are under a hermetic process of turbulence. The drawings are a type of transformative procedure exploring and distilling an internal and imaginative lapis philosophorum, or philosopher's stone.
