Bachelor Machines intends itself as a collegial assembly on generative schemas - on pattern recognition and emergence of the anomalous - Bachelor Machines provides forum and gathering node for artists of 'pataphysical persuasions willing to demonstrate and speculate on peculiar discoveries made in the course of their praxis...
Gathering portfolios of research findings and preliminary data, Bachelor Machines presents its developing interdisciplinary survey of imaginings in the 'pataphysical mode : picture galleries, speculative writings, audio recordings, lists of references, personal interviews...
BMO wishes to organize, fortify and proliferate its productive associations, drawing out pertinent constellations from the data cloud, compiling archipelagos of affinity - colleagues, venues, reference points between which to draw a charge from the differentials, catalyzing latent potentials... to promote successes of colleagues on the field, and co-develop our access to invisible hands, most elusive of commodities... the BMO’s primary generative principle, to be elaborated further in future indices: aggregate and potentiate intensive communal experiences and augment individual reverie … The internationalization of ‘pataphysics is irreversible.
Autonomous processes, conceptual apparatii, operating instructions for virally self-perpetuating research programmes, procedural circuitry, tactics for provoking emergent structures in feedback systems, schematics for creative automata, mechanical brides... restlessly hunting for edifying schemas and novel interpretive systems - hard techne whose machine code can be learned, its parameter-space explored, reverse engineered and readapted to the pleasures, leisures, and curious avocations of participating agencies …
Reminded by the recent passing of A.C.Clarke, "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" - we take this to be self-evident in the instance of art - in this way magic is very much alive today - BMO scans the zeitgeist for fellow practitioners of this sorceror's robotics, metaprogrammers of the conceptual shareware of culture - contemporary technicians of the sacred ... poets of an endocosmopolis...
The BMO proposes to facilitate and nourish creative endeavors and aesthetic accomplishments of its colleagues, lending what energies it can in the peripheral catalysis of an exergetic singularity, radient vortical torque which folds the luck-plane of distributed attention… a satirical convivial not-too-secret society, 'pataphysical design cabal for subgenius intelligencia, self-elected embedded herstorians of the immanent arts...
Invitations are the mode, but submissions, recommendations, and unsolicited constructive criticisms are welcome where relevant. Please observe the house curatorial emphasis on the 'meta', 'para', 'pata', and 'hyper'... We aim to cultivate those genres of science fiction that show science itself to be a fiction... make fallible, show incredulity, to those brazen metaphors and metanarratives which envelop and replace the organism with the simulacral... Of all the sciences, exact or otherwise, history remains the most imaginary of solutions...
Those collected are honored for their contributions to this curator's epistemology, and entitled to special privileges, deputized as field editors for Bachelor Machines --- we hope they will connect us with other collegially-minded artists, fellow practitioners, trade comrades who are also inspired or intrigued by systems processing, complexity and generative themes, seeing the potential for working contemporarily, in multiples, conceptual architectures, parascientistic schematics, 'pataphysical assemblage experiments, speculative abstractions, procedural drawings, graphical poetics, concrete comedies, motion studies, video composites, essays and interviews, transcriptions of hysterical latenight discussions on generative systems and the insidious semiotics of simulacra...
The cone of the BMO's attention may yet encompass a multitude of contemporary epiphenomena - we're just getting started - in all cases, exceptions will be the rule - If reference points are to be made, we honour a conceptual heritage of Dada interdisciplinarity... The College du Sociologie for its improvements on Surrealist technologies... we salute the experimental performative-immersive techno-naturalism of Fluxist Intermedians... and the comically rigorous technical mediations of Neo-Geo Simulationists... also the 'pataphysical virus growing like mushrooms through art and poetry around Toronto, NY, Paris, Buenos Aires... thumbs up to the decolonizingly syncretic soul-grinding booty-bass of all-night dance parties, inverting all aversions to the machine fetish... Futurists of the present age, again and again, we invoke momentarily that suspension of disbelief, volunteering a zone in which to test-launch a few radiant epistemologies, in attempt to share the lucid-dream of ‘pataphysics with all who are called to it’s gray light...
